greetings to all...sorry for the long delay. we here at our university had a not so great season. it seemed like it would never end with injuries and other things happening. anyways.............i'm back...
right hand lay up on the left side is good in many cases. usually when a player is penetrating with a defender close to his side. the player can use a hesitation or if you are old school we say "rocker step" move and get the defender to think a player is going to change direction or pull up. as the offensive player reacts to this he/she can explode and catch the defender off guard. currently the best player to watch doing this is Ginobili (NBA San Antonio Spurs)..*the bigger reason would more than likely be to draw a foul on the defender!* however it can be utilized in an effective way as long as it is in an aggressive way. ***otherwise the normal left hand on right side should be utilized when in the free open court. in other words no need to use the opposite hand.
Big TiP..... Coaches keep the kids aggressively attacking the basket with their head up, eyes on the basket and ball slightly beneath the chin with elbows out as they step to the basket...getting the ball too low or moving the ball below the waste will usually end up in a steal or deflection for the defense!!!
* I should be in Europe doing some trainings in Italy around the June period. If you or any club is looking for an outside coach from USA to come in and help please don't hesitate to contact me. dbprincehoops@hotmail.com 661-916-6413
