Firstly, I would like to greet all the members of this forum and the FIBA coaching web site...
My name is Nemanja Bjedov and I'm one of the coaches who work within the Playing for Peace program here in Cyprus, and the group of children that another coach and I jointly coach three times a week (2 practice sessions and a game) is really diverse. Namely, we have children from 9 to 14 years old and also both girls and boys practicing together.
We give our best trying to teach children basketball fundamentals but since for most of them this is a first contact with the game, some of them slow down the others which clearly disturbs the flow of the sessions. Could you give me any suggestions on how to reduce or ultimately eliminate this factor as for everybody to advance at the appropriate pace?
We did try several things, but we still did not find a perfect solution.
Thank you in advance and all the best.

hello coach
i think it is great you and your partner have started such a great venture to teach the next generations. i would like to talk with you more in depth and offer any assistance possible. you pose a very very important issue. often times when we have the good intent of helping all, it will slow down or hurt the others progression. i ultimately believe this..."teach to the highest players level,,,and let the others catch up and maybe they all get close after some time." basically, think of it this way...if you had classroom of 10 kids...2 kids were learning on a level that would allow them to go to college...then the other 8 were learning on maybe 2 steps lower....would you then take the 2 higher level and bring them down, OR let the other 8 see what the 2 higher level kids are learning and try to copy it???
those 2 kids at the higher level would be greatly disadvantaged and disrespected by being taught in reverse. the 8 would not...cause they are getting higher level learning even though they are not ready.
now i will say this...you can start to devote and spend time with those other kids who are not ready for a higher level. this may mean extra time.! or you can spend extra time with the higher level...
ok please contact me and let me know more about your program. i have a big heart for the international community of basketball. i would love to be invited into cyprus. i am available for teaching and training sessions if your company allows for it.
my best to you
