Hi,
I just listened to the interview of Yannakis at http://www.fibaeurope.com/coid_pmT8hxMNHFEVwD4ZHx1h10.articleMode_on.html .
He said something really important and this is that he believes the game is a players game and the coaches should help the players.
I think a lot of coaches have to think about this. I have seen to many coaches trying to be the "man" on the court and being more important than the players.
What do you think about this?

hi i m agree with the coach who give a good part to the players and don t just want to control of every detailes on or off the court i belive that the coach try to push the player to be creative

Interesting phrase . I like it a lot . Too bad not all the COACHES know the meaning of what you've said here .
To answer at that question above ... A player is created by the coach ... and a player made a coach ... So , my opinion is this : A very good understanding between them , makes a posibility to become a winner "team" .
As I heard , the coach of Spanish senior national team , before the final game at C.M. ... he told to the players " Do what I told you to do and you'll be a winner today " . So ... if there isn't a person who loves this game to PLAY and a person who loves this game TO COACH ... there isn't a team ;)

Another great comment- question!
First off, let me give a big congratulations to one of the premier basketball coaches in the WORLD!!!!!!!! Coach Yannakis! By far coaches like him and Dusan Ivanovich -FC Barcelona and countless others...Dave Blatt did not forget about you either!..oh can't forget the man of the hour...PEPE HERNANDEZ!!!
These coaches honestly should be coaching NBA teams along with many of the great USA coaches. Now some USA coaches could stand to learn a few things from them as well. I know if I were able to get a clinic or opinions by them, I would definitely listen!
Ok...now to answer your question...
Being a "player's coach" is how we describe this! I think in todays game it is vital for the coach to work as not just a vocal leader. He/She should be a mentor to the player. In this way assisting the player with understanding of so many things this game of basketball throws their way. Basketball is a game of the mind just as it is with the physical body motion. A coach should spend a lot of time in developing and teaching.
I like to put the phrase like this...
"If you can't teach ...then don't coach"!!! ;)
We all must be willing to teach and cultivate the player. Too many coaches want to be the main focal point of a team. This happens way too often.
