Description
The players get into three lines at the baseline. O1 in the central line has a ball, and X3 and X4 do not. On a signal from the coach O1
dribbles the length of the court for a layup at the opposite basket. On a second signal from the coach (two or three seconds later), X3 & X4 sprint to stop the ball. After a make or a miss the two defenders immediately become offensive players, and O1 sprints back to become the defender in a 2v1 defensive situation. If O1 scores his attempt X3 and X4 must inbound the ball.
Goals / purpose / skills
Defensive and offensive transition. Layup at full speed.
Variations
The two defenders start when the ball handler reaches the free throw line. Limit the number of dribbles by the offensive player in the 1v2 situation to 5 or 6 total. In the 2v1 situation do not permit the offensive players to dribble, they can only advance the ball using a pass.
