Dribbling - One Ball Change of Direction Dribbling Combinations
Description
O1 starts by dribbling with his right hand. At the first cone he performs an inside outside or fake crossover move, keeping the ball in his right hand but dribbling once over his left foot before bringing the ball back with his right hand. At the second cone he passes the ball behind his back to his left hand and then turns 90 degrees towards the centre circle. At the far side of the center circle (the fourth cone) the player executes two low backup dribbles to the third cone. Here he crosses the ball over to his right hand and speed dribbles at the sideline. At the fifth cone he executes a fake spin, by reverse spinning 180 degrees so his back is to the same sideline, then turning back the same way he spun so he is again dribbling towards the sideline. At the sixth cone he performs a reverse spin dribble so the ball is now in his left hand dribbling at the basket. At the seventh and final cone he executes a stutter step or hesitation dribble to freeze an imaginary defender before crossing the ball between his legs to his right hand and scoring a layup.
Goals / purpose / skills
Work on a number of dribble moves with the left and right hand so that ALL players (not just point guards) at all ages are comfortable handling the ball.
Variations
Mirror the cones and start the drill in the other corner, so all moves are performed with the opposite hand.
Tips / Hints / Emphasis
