Description
8 cones: 2 on each baseline, 2 on half court line and 2 at the middle of each three point line. Divide your players in to sets of 2 (one X and one O). Start on the right side of the court. O1 dribbles slowly from the baseline cone to the three point line cone. X1 slides with him. O1 speed dribbles to the next cone. X1 sprints to try to get in front of O1 again. O1 dribbles slowly to the next cone. X1 slides with him. O1 speed dribbles to the last cone. X1 sprints to try to get ahead of O1. Change roles and repeat.
Goals / purpose / skills
Footwork, ballhandling, conditioning.
Variations
After four rotations let O1 and X1 play 1v1 when they reach the half court line, but they must stay on one side of the court. O1 must try to reach the basket in a straight line whilst X1 must try to turn O1 as much as possible or try to direct him into the sideline or baseline.
Tips / Hints / Emphasis
O1 must stay low when he dribbles and X1 must start in the correct stance. Good footwork will allow him to keep his hands in front of his body. This drill teaches the defender that if he is beaten by the ballhandler he must sprint back to get in front of them again.
